A life with purpose

Mark 12: 28-44

There are a lot of laws in the Old Testament. Read through the first five books of the Bible and you’ll see law after law after law. Fortunately in verses 28-31 of our passage today, Jesus gives tells us what the most important are: love others and love God. Those are the most important commands, and they give our lives purpose.

Sometimes we can feel like God’s Word has too much for us to actually apply it all to our lives. How can I be everything God has called me to be?

Jesus says, focus on these two things first. In other Gospels he says that all the other commands are summarized in these. (See Matthew 22: 37-40) If you can focus on those two things — loving God and loving others, everything else falls into place.

Do you love God more than you did a year ago? Do you love others more than you did a year ago? Does your life show those two things by your actions?

It’s a simple test but not one simply done.
