This is an interesting parable because it is one of the few that we know explicitly who the story is supposed to convict. He was clearly telling the parable for the benefit of the chief priests, scribes, and elders mentioned in chapter 11. I think the best application for us is as a reminder of the kind of ill-treatment Jesus faces from his contemporaries. We shouldn’t be surprised when we face that kind of ill-treatment that Jesus did. We are trying to emulate his life as believers. In fact, according to God’s Word, we should probably be more surprised when we don’t.
