Oh how easily we forget

Mark 8: 11-26

Jesus had just done one of the great miracles of his ministry — the feeding of the 4,000. And his disciples had the gall to talk about not having bread. They had the Bread of Life in front of them and they were discussing their lack of bread. Often God does great works in our lives and we’re so amazed when he does them. But we forget quickly. If we were to make a line graph of our our confidence in God it would look as up and down as the Himalayas. God heals a pain in our life. We’re so grateful he does. It’s so clear that it’s miraculous. It’s so clear when that happens that God is moving. But the next day, when we’re needing just a small act of God, we begin to make plans for ourselves and leave God out of the equation.

I think that’s why the Old Testaments heroes of faith often left memorials when God would work in their lives. They wanted to have physical reminders of God’s miraculous work.

Think about ways you can leave memorials to God’s work in your life. That might mean keeping some sort of journal. It might mean just leaving some marker at the place where the work happened. But regardless it’s about leaving something that reminds you of what God has done.

And we all need reminding sometimes.
