Jesus had really only one reason for feeding the 4,000 people in this story — compassion. There’s a lot of qualities to respect and revere about Jesus, but we can’t forget about his compassion. Jesus had compassion on those with needs. Part of being like Christ is that we too must have compassion for the needs of others. I know my heart needs to be more like Jesus. There are a lot of times when I need to be moved by compassion like Christ was.
My prayer is this. That my heart will break for the things that break the heart of Jesus.
